II. Summary of Elî Bego from Afrin 366

The village of Elî Bago, also referred to as Elî Beg, is a small settlement located in the Bilbil district of the Efrîn region. It is situated in a high, mountainous area ("gundekî bilind e") known for its harsh winters and heavy snow. The village lies in very close proximity to the neighboring village of Xelolkê, with the distance described as only one to one and a half kilometers.

According to a local resident named Ebû Xelîl, the village's name is derived from an individual named Elî Beg. When discussing the village's origins and social history, Ebû Xelîl emphasizes a specific distinction in social hierarchy regarding the founders. He states that their lineage or group ("dabeşîya me") were not Axa (Aghas) but were instead Begs. He asserts that the title of Beg is distinct from and superior to that of an Axa.

Physically, Elî Bago is described as having a capacity of approximately 40 to 45 households ("çêl, pênc û pênc cîmal"). However, the current population is significantly lower, with Ebû Xelîl indicating that only a small fraction of these households are currently occupied, while many residents have left. The village lacks certain basic infrastructure; there is no bakery or school within Elî Bago itself. Children must travel to Xelolkê for education, which offers schooling up to the sixth grade. Despite its small size, the village sustains three small shops (dikan) and retains a vibrant community spirit, highlighted by the numerous children playing football (gog) in the open spaces.
