Village or Nearby Villages
The Ebdurehman shrine at Xelîl is known as Merqeda Ebdurehman and Ziyareta Ebdurehman.
Several shrines in the Afrin region carry similar names, each tied to its own village by its own source. This one is separate from Ebdirehman at Qujûma, Ebdurrehman bin Awf at Aşkê Şerqî, and Şêx Ebdurehman at Kanî Gewrkê.
Dedicated Figure & Historical Roots
Before Xelîl was founded, the mountain was called Çiyayê Ziyaretê, the Mountain of the Shrine, because an old shrine and martyr were already there. The village later grew around Ziyareta Ebdurehman.1
Ritual Practices & Beliefs
Villagers visit the shrine and pray for healing from illnesses. When rain does not fall, they gather around the shrine and ask God for rain.2
