Sariya is a shrine of Sariya village, which adjoins Şêtana, in the Mabeta sub-district.

Physical & Landscape Features

The shrine centres on an olive tree in the middle of the village, known as the Ziyaret tree, which the mukhtar gives as about four hundred years old, dating to the village's founding by three brothers. The mukhtar says people damaged the tree, struck it, and bombed it, but the villagers allow no one to harm or cut it.2

Dedicated Figure & Historical Roots

The shrine is dedicated to a martyr and saint of the village named Şêx Mihemed, remembered as a lame man. The village mukhtar, Beşîr Hemîd Mihemed of the Hesko house, says that many villagers have seen the martyr come to the tree in their dreams.1
