Şêx Hesen, also called Şêx Hisên, is a meqam, a memorial shrine, in Kurkê Jorin in the Mabeta sub-district. It honours Şêx Hesen, the son of Şêx Elî.

Physical & Landscape Features

The meqam stands in the upper part of Kurkê Jorin, beside the tomb of his father, the Tirba Şêx Elî. The shrine sits by the cemetery shared by the twin villages of Kurkê Jorin and Kurkê Jêrin, and Şêx Hisên himself is from Kurkê Jorin (Upper Qerqî).1

Dedicated Figure & Historical Roots

The meqam honours Şêx Hesen, the son of Şêx Elî. A relative recounts that Şêx Hesen renovated his father's tomb and wished to build up his father's work at the site, and that he himself died during the COVID pandemic, in Istanbul.2

Ritual Practices & Beliefs

People came to the maqam every Friday, both Kurds and Arabs.3
